About
My primary area of research is ancient Chinese Daoist philosophy. I investigate philosophical issues in ancient Daoist texts bringing to bear modern western philosophical methodologies (analytical, pragmatic, deconstructive, hermeneutic). I am becoming increasingly interested in hermeneutic/linguistic issues that arise because of fundamental mismatches between ancient Sinitic and modern western languages. These are issues that are often dismissed as impossible on a priori grounds, but they are issues that any conscientious comparative philosopher is forced to struggle with on a daily basis.
